While socializing occurs, we try to avoid riding side-by-side. Expect some pace lining at speeds of 18 mph. We typically regroup 2 or 3 times on a ride to see how everybody is doing, maybe take off jackets or have a quick snack or some Ibuprofen. We always enjoy a coffee stop … sometimes mid-ride or near the end depending on the route.

Ride information is included in the pre-ride route announcements available by joining the CRANKS email group (contact any ride leader to join).

We introduce new people to the group. Sometimes a faster group goes ahead but waits at the regroups.

The Ramblers rides are the more challenging of the SLOBC North County rides and are the preferred group for more experienced riders. Hills (the likes of the Peachy Canyon or York Mountain), greater distances and more speed define this ride.

While socializing occurs, biking is the driver. Expect some pace lining at speeds of 20 mph. Regrouping is a standard however riders are expected to be compatible (be within rider guidelines) so no one is far behind or way ahead. While a mid-ride stop at a local coffee/snack shop is the usual venue, depending on the route a road stop/break may be necessary.

Ride information is included in the pre-ride route announcements available by joining the Ramblers email group (contact any ride leader to join).

The Scramblers are best suited for the intermediate rider, experienced yet preferring less riding drama (reasonable hills). Adelaida Rd would be the most difficult.

The rides focus on biking and socializing, speed is less of a focus although there is a minimum average speed depending upon the terrain. For the most part with hills the minimum is in the 11 + mph range. For any particular ride, the participating riders define the pace. Regrouping is a standard however riders are expected to be compatible (be w/i rider guidelines) so no one is far behind or way ahead. A mid-ride break at a local coffee / snack shop is a ride highlight.

Ride information is included in the pre-ride route announcements available by joining the Scramblers email group (contact any ride leader to join).

In 2000, the Slopokes were formed in response to the need for an “A” category ride (10-12 mph), for those who love to ride but who aren’t that fast. The group tends to separate into two different ride groups, close to the faster and slower ends of the speed range. The two ride groups join together for a leisurely coffee stop, an important part of the ride experience. The rides are social and non-competitive.

Each week has a different ride leader who decides the route and the coffee stop. Rides take place all over the county and sometimes explore new places. New riders are always introduced and welcomed.
