COVID Safety

SLOBC is looking forward to seeing you at the event and is working to make the experience safe and enjoyable. The following defines the essential components of a safe environment that minimizes the passing of infections between those involved in the event.

Being Outside: This is built into the very nature of cycling and will be reinforced by locating check-in, rest stops, and the post-ride meal outside or in open protected spaces.

Social Distancing: Being outside provides everyone the opportunity to maintain appropriate social distance between themselves and non-family members. Take advantage of the available space to decrease crowding and enjoy the rural environment. Follow the staggered start times to reduce crowding along roads and at rest stops.

Vaccination: While vaccination is not required, riders and volunteers that are fully vaccinated including boosters provide the strongest level of safety for themselves and others. Given that the average age of our riders and volunteers is around 58, it is highly likely that the majority of us will be fully vaccinated.

Masking: While masks are not required, volunteers and riders are welcome to wear masks if they wish for an added layer of safety.

Clean Hands: Riders are asked to remove their gloves and use hand sanitizer at rest stops. Volunteers will clean their hands and wear gloves during the preparation and serving of food and drink.

Self-Assessment: If as a rider or volunteer, you have been exposed to someone with COVID or are not feeling well the week of the event, please stay home. This is not the time to tough it out and it will be appreciated by everyone.

Following these components should create a safe cycling environment.
